Answer : Deforestation means cutting down trees in a large scale. Today it has become a global problem. This problem is increasing day by day. According to the ecologists, a country must have at least 25% of its area as forestland. But unfortunately, Bangladesh has only 13%. This is the ultimate result of deforestation. It is a great threat for the country as well as for planet. There are many causes of deforestation. Population explosion is the main cause of deforestation. People use wood in different purposes. They make their house in forestland cutting down trees. People are clearing forests to get more space for cultivation. As a result, trees are being cutting down rapidly. There are many bad, effects of deforestation on men and animals. Deforestation causes global warming. It hampers ecological balance. It brings about various natural disasters. Deforestation also causes great harm to the animals. Animals have to lose their living, feeding and nesting place due to deforestation. It has many bad effects on climate. Today our climate is changing drastically. The sea level is rising at an alarming rate. Several parts of the world are turning into desert due to deforestation. Human beings are facing flood, soil erosion, and drought etc. Effective measures should be taken by the government to stop deforestation. People must be aware of the bad effects of cutting trees. Tree Plantation Week may be observed nationally. Media can encourage people to plant more and more trees. If we can ensure all these steps, we can hope for a greener world and better environment.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : ব্যাপক হারে গাছ কাটাকে বন উজাড়করণ বলা হয়। আজ এটি বিশ্ব সংকটে পরিণত হয়ে গেছে। দিন দিন এই সমস্যা বেড়েই চলেছে। পরিবেশবিদদের মতে একটি দেশের সর্বমোট এলাকার ২৫% বনভূমি থাকা উচিত। কিন্তু দূর্তাগ্যজনক যে বাংলাদেশের রয়েছে মাত্র ১৩%। এই হলাে বন উজাড়ের চূড়ান্ত ফল। দেশের জন্য এবং আমাদের গ্রহের জন্য এটি একটি বিরাট হ্রমকি। বন উজাড়ের বহু কারণ রয়েছে। জনসংখ্যা বিস্ফোরণ বন উজাড়ের প্রধান কারণ। জনগণ বিভিন্ন উদ্দেশ্যে কাঠ ব্যবহার করে। গাছপালা কেটে তারা বনভূমিতে তাদের বাড়িঘর তৈরী করে। চাষাবাদের জন্য আরা হথান পেতে জনগণ বন পরিষকার করছে। ফলে, গাছপালা দ্রুত কেটে ফেলা হচ্ছে। মানুষ ও জীবজজ্জুর উপর বন উজাড়ের বহু কুপ্রভাব রয়েছে। বন উজাড় বৈশ্বিক উত্তাপ বৃদ্ধির কারণ এটি পরিবেশের ভারসাম্যতা নষ্ট করে। এটি বিভিন্ন প্রাকৃতিক দূর্যোগ বয়ে আনে। বন উজাড় জীবজন্তুরও প্রচুর ক্ষতি করে। বন উজাড়ের জন্য জীবজন্তুকে তাদের বাসস্থান, খাবার ও পাকার স্থান হারাতে হয়। জলবায়ুর উপর এর বহু মন্দ প্রভাব রয়েছে। আজ আমাদের জলবায়ু বহুলাংশে বদলে যাচ্ছে। সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠের উচ্চতা আশংকাজনকভাবে বেড়ে যাচ্ছে। পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন অংশ বনউজাড়ের দরণ মরভূমি হয়ে যাচ্ছে। মানুষ বন্যা, ভূমিক্ষয় এবং ক্ষরা ইত্যাদি সংকটের মুখােমুখি হচ্ছে। বনউজাড় বন্ধ করার জন্য সরকার কর্তৃক এর কুপ্রভাব সম্পর্কে সচেতন করে তােলা আবশ্যক। জাতীয়ভাবে বৃক্ষরােপন সপ্তাহ পালন করতে হবে। গণমাধ্যমগুলাে জনগণকে আরাে বৃক্ষ রােপণ করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করতে পারে। যদি আমরা এই সকল পদক্ষেপ নিশ্চিত করতে পারি তাহলে আমরা সবুজতর বিশ্ব ও উন্নততর পরিবেশ আশা করতে পারি।
