Once a golden necklace was lost from a rich man's house. A few servants worked in that house. Naturally it was suspected that any one of the servants had stolen the necklace. The rich man asked all of them but -----
একবার এক ধনী ব্যক্তির বাড়ি থেকে সোনার নেকলেস হারিয়ে গেল। কয়েকজন চাকর ওই বাড়িতে কাজ করত। স্বাভাবিকভাবেই সন্দেহ করা হয়েছিল যে কোনও চাকরই নেকলেস চুরি করেছে। ধনী লোকটি তাদের সবাইকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন -----

Title : A wise judgement.
Answer : Once a golden necklace was lost from a rich man's house. A few servants worked in that house. Naturally it was suspected that any one of the servants had stolen the necklace. The rich man asked all of them but no one admitted that he was guilty. Then the rich man made a plan. He summoned all the servants and gave each of them a stick. He ordered them to submit the sticks the next day. He also warned them that the stick of the thief would increase one inch and therefore he could find out the real thief. The servants took away the sticks. The thief became afraid. He thought that his sticks would increase and he would be proved as a thief. This is why he cut his stick by one inch. The next day it was found that each stick was equal in length except that of the thief. It was short by one inch. Thus the thief of the necklace was caught red-handed.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একদা এক ধনী লােকের বাড়ি থেকে একটা সোনার হার হারিয়ে গেল। সেই বাড়িতে অল্প কয়েকজন চাকর বাকর কাজ করত। স্বভাবতই সন্দেহ করা হলাে সে চাকরবাকরদের একজন হারটি চুরী করেছে। ধনী লােকটি তাদের সকলকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করলেন কিন্তু কেউ স্বীকার করল না যে সে দোষী। তখন ধনী লােকটি একটা ফন্দি আঁটলেন। তিনি সব চাকর বাকরকে ডেকে পাঠালেন এবং তাদের প্রত্যেককে একটা করে লাঠি দিলেন। তিনি পরের দিন লাঠিগুলো জমা দিতে বললেন। তিনি তাদেরকে সতর্কও করে দিলেন যে চোরের লাঠিটি এক ইঞ্চি লম্বা হবে এবং এভাবে তিনি প্রকৃত চোরকে ধরতে পারবেন। চাকরগুলাে লাঠিগুলাে নিয়ে গেল। চোরটি ভয় পেয়ে গেল। তার মনে হলাে যে তার লাঠিটি বেড়ে যাবে এবং সে চোর বলে গেল যে চোরের লাঠিটি ছাড়া প্রতিটি লাঠিই সমান। এটি এক ইঞ্চি ছোট ছিল। এভাবে হারের চোরটি হাতে নাতে ধরা পড়ল।
