Answer : Once there lived a king called Midas. He had severe greed for wealth. Though he had a lot, he was never satisfied what he had. The rich people are always dissatisfied. The more they have, the more they want. He thought, if he had the golden touch, he would be the happiest person in the world. As he was fond of gold, he prayed to God to get more and more gold. The god listened to him and granted his prayer instantly. One afternoon the king was sitting under an apple tree in his garden. A ripe apple fell at that moment and he picked it up. It becomes gold at once. He could not believe his eyes. When he entered into the palace with a joyous mind, his little daughter came to him. The king touched her and she became a solid gold and could not move. Then his dearest wife came to him. As soon as he caught her, she also turned into gold. The king was very sad to see that. He understood the fact. Then he prayed to God again to take away the magic touch. The God returned back it. So we learn from the story that excess of anything is bad.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একদা মিডাস নামে এক রাজা বাস করত। সম্পদের প্রতি তার তীব্র মােহ ছিল। তার অনেক সম্পদ থাকা সত্ত্বেও সে এতে সন্তুষ্ট ছিল না। ধনীরা সবসময়ই অতৃপ্ত থাকে। তাদের যত বেশি থাকে তারা তত বেশি চায়। সে ভাবত যদি সে স্পর্শ করলেই সব সােনা হয়ে যেত তাহলে সে পৃথিবীর সবচাইতে সুখী ব্যক্তি হতাে। যেহেতু সে সােনা ভালােবাসত তাই সে ঈশ্বরের কাছে অনেক অনেক সােনার জন্যে প্রার্থনা করত। ঈশ্বর তার কথা শুনে সাথে সাথেই তার প্রার্থনা মঞ্জুর করলেন। একদিন দুপুরে রাজা তার বাগানে আপেল গাছের নিচে বসেছিল। সেই মুহূর্তে একটা পাকা আপেল পড়লে সে তা তুলল। সাথে সাথে তা সােনা হয়ে গেল। সে তার চোখকে বিশ্বাস করতে পারল না। সে অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত হয়ে প্রসাদে ফিরলে তার ছােট্ট মেয়ে তার কাছে আসল। রাজা তাকে স্পর্শ করায় সে সােনা হয়ে গেল এবং একদম স্থির হয়ে গেল। অত:পর তার প্রিয়তমা স্ত্রী তার নিকট এলাে। সে তাকে ধরতে না ধরতেই সে সােনা হয়ে গেল। রাজা এসব দেখার পর খুব দুঃখ পেল। তখন সে সব বুঝতে পারল। তারপর তার যাদুর স্পর্শ ফিরিয়ে নেয়ার জন্যে সে ঈশ্বরের নিকট প্রার্থনা করল। ঈশ্বর যাদুর স্পর্শ ফিরিয়ে নিলেন। কাজেই আমরা গল্পটি থেকে শিখলাম যে অতিরিক্ত কোনাে কিছুই ভালাে না।
