Answer : Once there lived a poor woodcutter in a village near a jungle. He used to cut wood from the forest and sold it in the market. But one day, while cutting wood, suddenly his axe fell into the pond. The pond was very deep and the woodcutter did not know how to swim. So he was sitting there with a heavy heart. He was thinking what to do. Suddenly, he saw a fairy before him. The fairy asked him why he was crying. He told her everything. The fairy took pity on him. She went into the pond and came back with a golden axe. The woodcutter refused to take the golden axė as it was not his axe. She then again went into the water and returned with a silver one. This time also the woodcutter refused to take it. He told the fairy that his axe was made of iron and it was old. Finally, she brought the axe of the woodcutter from the water. The woodcutter was delighted to get back his iron axe. The fairy became pleased with the woodcutter at his honesty and gave him the two valuable axes as reward. Then the woodcutter became rich and began to live happily. Honesty is thus always rewarded.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একদা এক জঙ্গলের পাশে একটি গ্রামে একজন কাঠুরিয়া বাস করত। সে ঐ জঙ্গল থেকে কাঠ কেটে বাজারে বিক্রি করত। কিন্তু একদিন যখন সে কাঠ কাটছিল তখন হঠাৎ করে তার কুড়ালটি পুকুরে পড়ে গেল। পুকুরটি খুব গভীর ছিল এবং কাঠুরিয়াটি সাঁতারও জানতনা। তাই সে সেখানে মন খারাপ করে বসে ছিল। সে ভাবছিল কী করা যায়। হঠাৎ সে তার সামনে একটি পরী দেখতে পেল। পরীটি তার কান্নার কারণ জিজ্ঞেস করল। সে তাকে সব বলল। পরীটির তার উপরে দয়া হলাে। সে পুকুরে ডুব দিল এবং একটি স্বর্ণের কুড়াল নিয়ে ফেরত আসল। যেহেতু এটি তার কুড়াল ছিলনা, কাঠুরিয়া স্বর্ণের কুড়ালটি নিতে অস্বীকার করল। তারপর সে আবার পানিতে নামল এবং একটি রূপার কুড়াল নিয়ে ফিরল। কাঠুরিয়াটি এইবারও তা নিতে অস্বীকার করল। সে পরীকে বলল তার কুরাল পুরানাে এবং লাোহার তৈরি। সবশেষে সে পানি থেকে কাঠুরিয়ার কুড়ালটি আনল। কাঠুরিয়া তার লােহার কুড়াল ফিরে পেয়ে খুব খুশি হলাে। পরীটি কাঠুরিয়ার সততায় খুব খুশি হলাে এবং পুরস্কার হিসেবে তাকে মূল্যবান কুড়াল দুটি দিয়ে দিল। অত:পর কাঠুরিয়াটি ধনী হয়ে সুখে বসবাস করতে লাগল। এইভাবেই সততা সর্বদা পুরস্কৃত হয়।
