ইরানের রাজা মহান কবি শেখ সাদীকে খুব প্রায়ই তাঁর দরবারে আমন্ত্রণ জানাতেন। একবার রাজার দরবারে যাওয়ার পথে কবি এক রাতের জন্য এক সম্ভ্রান্ত লোকের বাড়িতে আশ্রয় নিয়েছিলেন। তিনি তখন ছিলেন -----

Answer : The king of Iran used to invite the great poet Sheikh Saadi very often to his court. Once on his way to the king's court, the poet took shelter in a noble man's house for a night. He was then in a normal dress. The noble man did not evaluate Saadi much due to his shabby dress. He showed him no respect at all. Saadi felt offended in his treatment. But he said nothing and left the noble man's house. Next day he went to the king's court. He stayed there some days. In the court he wrote some poems in the honour of the king and entertained the king and his courtiers very much. The king gave him many gifts and rich dresses. This time Saadi put on a pompous dress. On his way, he stayed his night at the same noble man's house. This time the noble man was showing too much care. He served Saadi many rich food items. But Saadi was not eating. Rather he was putting the foods in his pocket. The man asked the reason of that. Saadi replied, "My dress deserves this food." The noble man understood his fault and asked for Saadi's forgiveness.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : প্রসিদ্ধ কবি শেখ সাদীকে ইরানের রাজা প্রায়ই তার দরবারে দাওয়াত করতেন। একবার রাজ দরবারে যাওয়ার সময় কবি এক অভিজাত লােকের বাড়িতে এক রাতের জন্যে আশ্রয় নিলেন। তখন তিনি সাধারণ পােশাক পরিহিত ছিলেন। অভিজাত লােকটি জীর্ণ পােশাকের কারণে সাদীকে খুব বেশি মূল্যায়ন করলেন না। সে তাকে কোনাে প্রকার শ্রদ্ধা প্রদর্শন করল না। সাদী তার ব্যবহারে ক্ষুব্ধ হলেন। কিন্তু তিনি কিছু না বলে লােকটির বাড়ি থেকে চলে আসলেন। পরদিন তিনি রাজ দরবারে গেলেন। তিনি সেখানে কিছুদিন থাকলেন। দরবারে তিনি রাজাকে উদ্দেশ্য করে কিছু কবিতা লিখলেন এবং রাজা ও সভাসদদের প্রচুর আনন্দ দিলেন। রাজা তাকে অনেক উপহার এবং অভিজাত পােশাক লেন। এবার সাদী জমকালাে পােশাক পরিধান করলেন। পথিমধ্যে তিনি সেই অভিজাত লােকের বাড়িতে রাত কাটালেন। এইবার অভিজাত লােকটি তাকে অতিমাত্রায় যত্ন করল। সে সাদীর জন্যে অনেক সমৃদ্ধ খাবার পরিবেশন করল। কিন্তু সাদী খাচ্ছিলেন না এবং তিনি খাবারগুলাে তার পকেটে ঢুকাচ্ছিলেন। লােকটি এই সবের কারণ জানতে চাইলে সাদী বললেন, আমার পােশাকই এইসব খাবার প্রাপ্য। অভিজাত লােকটি তার ভুল বুঝতে পারল এবং সাদীর কাছে ক্ষমা চাইল।
