He fled away from his kingdom and took shelter in a cave. One day he was pondering over his fate lying in the cave. Suddenly he noticed a spider. The spider was trying to reach the ceiling with the help of its silken thread. The repeated efforts of the spider had drawn his attention. He observed it with keen interest. It attempted six times but failed every time. But it didn't stop trying. Bruce became very curious about the spider. He kept observing it carefully. He saw that it became successful in its seventh attempt. This incident boosted up the spirit of King Bruce. He thought that it was a great lesson for him and he should not waste time any more. He gained new strength and fresh courage. He decided to fight again against his enemy and regain his kingdom. He gathered his forces and fought another battle. This time he fought with new vigor and enthusiasm and became successful in making his country free.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : স্কটল্যান্ডের রাজা রবার্ট ব্রুস রাজ্যের দখল ফিরে পেতে বেশ কয়েকবার যুদ্ধ করেন। কিন্তু প্রতিবারই পরাজিত হন। স্বভাবতই তাঁর দুর্ভাগ্যের জন্য তিনি দুঃখ ভারাক্রান্ত ছিলেন। তাঁর জীবন বাঁচানাটা জরুরী ছিল। তিনি তার রাজ্য থেকে পালিয়ে গেলেন এবং একটি গুহায় আশ্রয় নিলেন। একদিন তিনি গুহায় শুয়ে তাঁর ভাগ্য সম্পর্কে ভাবছিলেন। হঠাৎ তিনি একটি মাকড়সা দেখতে পেলেন। মাকড়সাটি তার রেশমি আঁশের সাহায্যে ছাদে উঠতে চেষ্টা করছিল। মাকড়সাটির বারংবার চেষ্টা তাঁর দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করল। তিনি গভীর আগ্রহে এটিকে পর্যবেক্ষণ করলেন। এটি ছয়বার চেষ্টা করলাে কিন্তু প্রতিবারই ব্যর্থ হলাে। কিন্তু এটি চেষ্টা করতে ছাড়ল না। ব্রুস মাকড়সাটি সম্পর্কে প্রচন্ড কৌতুহলী হয়ে উঠল। তিনি ভালাে করে এটিকে পর্যবেক্ষণ করতে লাগলেন। তিনি দেখলেন যে এটি সপ্তম প্রচেষ্টার সময় সফল হলাে। এই ঘটনাটি রাজা ব্রুসের সাহস বাড়িয়ে দিল। তিনি ভাবলেন এটা তাঁর জন্যে শিক্ষণীয় এবং মােটেই আর সময় অপচয় করা উচিত নয়। তিনি নতুন শক্তি এবং উদ্দীপনা লাভ করলেন। তিনি আবার শত্রুর বিরুদ্ধে লড়াই করে নিজের রাজ্য পুনরুদ্ধারের সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন। তিনি তার সৈন্যদের একত্রিত করলেন এবং আরেকটি যুন্ধ করলেন। এবার তিনি নতুন উৎসাহ উদ্দীপনার সাথে লড়লেন এবং তার দেশ স্বাধীন করতে সক্ষম হলেন।
