একদিন দু'টি ইদুর এক টুকরো রুটি চুরি করল। তারা এটিকে সমান দুই ভাগে ভাগ করতে চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু পারল না। কারণ তারা প্রত্যেকেই রুটির বড় অংশটি চেয়েছিল। এমনকি সেজন্য তারা মারামারি পর্যন্ত করল। শেষ পর্যন্ত তারা সমস্যা সমাধানের জন্য বনের সবচেয়ে বুদ্ধিমান প্রাণী হিসেবে বিবেচিত বানরের কাছে গেল -----

Answer : One day two rats stole a piece of bread. They tried to divide it into two equal parts but failed. Because each rat wanted the larger part of the bread. They even fought for that. Lastly, they agreed to put up their problem to the monkey who was considered the wisest animal in the forest. They went to the monkey according to their agreement. They asked the monkey to divide the bread into two equal parts. The monkey was very cunning and wished to have the bread. The monkey divided it and took a piece in each hand. "One piece is clearly bigger than the other," said the monkey. So he ate the extra part of the bigger piece. "That piece now has become smaller than the other," said the monkey. So he ate the extra part of the bigger piece. That piece now became smaller than the other. The monkey, therefore, ate a part of the piece to make the other smaller. The monkey did the same thing again and again. At last, there was only one small piece of bread left. The rats now asked the monkey to give that piece to them. The monkey wanted it for his fee and ate up that also. The rats realized their mistake and left the place becoming sadder and wiser.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : একদিন দু'টি ইদুর এক টুকরাে রুটি চুরি করল। তারা এটিকে সমান দুই ভাগে ভাগ করতে চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু পারল না। কারণ প্রত্যেক ইদুর রলটির বড় অংশটি চেয়েছিল। এমনকি সেজন্য তারা মারামারি পর্যন্ত করল। শেষ পর্যন্ত তারা সমস্যা সমাধানের জন্য বনের সবচেয়ে বুদ্ধিমান প্রাণী হিসেবে বিবেচিত বানরের কাছে যাবার সিদ্ধাস্ত নিল। তারা তাদের চুক্তি অনুযায়ী বানরের কাছে গেল। তারা বানরকে রুটিটি সমান দুইভাগে ভাগ করে দিতে বলল। বানরটি ছিল বেশ চতুর এবং রুটিখানা পেতে চাইল। বানরটি একে ভাগ করল এবং প্রত্যেক হাতে একটি টুকরা নিল। বানরটি বলল "এক টুকরা আরেক টুকরা থেকে বড়"। তাই সে বড় টুকরার অতিরিক্ত অংশ খেয়ে ফেলল। "এই টুকরোটি এখন অন্যটি থেকে ছােট হয়ে গেছে।" বানর বলল। কাজেই সে বড় টুকরার অতিরিক্ত অংশ খেয়ে নিল। এই টুকরা এখন অন্যটি থেকে ছোট হয়ে গেল। সুতরাং বানরটি একটি অংশ খেয়ে অন্যটি আরও ছােট করল। বানরটি একই কাজ বারবার করতে লাগলাে। অবশেষে, রুটির ছােট্ট একটি টুকরা অবশিষ্ট রইল। তখন ইদুরগুলাে বানরকে রুটির টুকরাটি তাদের দিয়ে দিতে বলল। বানরটি তার পারিশ্রমিক হিসেবে সেই টুকরােটি চাইল এবং সেটিও খেয়ে ফেলল। ইদুরগুলাে তাদের ভুল বুঝতে পারল। এবং দুঃখিত হয়ে ও শিক্ষা পেয়ে চলে আসলাে।
