Answer : Independence Day is a very significant and memorable day in our national life. The bloody armed struggle for the independence of Bangladesh began with the declaration of independence on March 26, 1971. This day is a colorful memorial of self-respect as an independent nation. The Awami League won an absolute majority in the 1970 parliamentary elections. But ignoring the verdict of the people, the government of Pakistan tried to stay in power through conspiracy. The people of this country could not accept it at all. Bangabandhu started the Bengali movement under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Terrified by the movement of the people of this country, on the night of March 25, 1971, the barbaric ruling party of Pakistan attacked the unarmed innocent people of Bangladesh. Murder, looting, rape, arson and other forms of barbarism were carried out all over the country. The fearless Bengali's of this country also formed a resistance against the Pakistani ruling class. Bangladesh emerged victorious on 16th December 1971 after 9 months of bloody clashes. March 26th was declared Independence Day and March 26th is our Independence Day. This day is celebrated with special dignity by the state every year. Independence Day is a day of great pride and dignity in our national life.

বঙ্গানুবাদ : স্বাধীনতা দিবস আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে একটি অত্যন্ত তাৎপর্যময় এবং স্মরণীয় দিন। বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার জন্য রক্তাক্ত সশস্ত্র সংগ্রাম ১৯৭১ সালের ২৬-শে মার্চ স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা দিয়ে শুরু হয়েছিল। এই দিনটি স্বাধীন জাতি হিসাবে আত্ম-শ্রদ্ধার এক বর্ণময় স্মৃতিসৌধ। ১৯৭০ সালের সংসদ নির্বাচনে আওয়ামী লীগ নিরঙ্কুশ সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতা অর্জন করেছিল। কিন্তু জনগণের রায় উপেক্ষা করে পাকিস্তান সরকার ষড়যন্ত্রের মাধ্যমে ক্ষমতায় থাকার চেষ্টা করেছিল। এদেশের মানুষ একেবারেই মেনে নিতে পারেনি। বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের নেতৃত্বে বাঙালি আন্দোলন শুরু করেছিলেন। এদেশের জনগণের আন্দোলনে আতঙ্কিত হয়ে ১৯৭১ সালের ২৫ শে মার্চ রাতে পাকিস্তানের বর্বর শাসক দল বাংলাদেশের নিরস্ত্র নিরপরাধ মানুষকে আক্রমণ করে। খুন, লুটপাট, ধর্ষণ, অগ্নিসংযোগসহ বিভিন্ন ধরণের বর্বরতা সারা দেশে চালানো হয়েছিল। এদেশের নির্ভীক বাঙালিরাও পাকিস্তানি শাসক শ্রেণীর বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিরোধ গড়ে তোলে। ৯ মাসব্যাপী রক্তক্ষয়ী সংঘর্ষের পরে ১৯৭১ সালের ১৬-ই ডিসেম্বর বালাদেশ বিজয়ী হন। ২৬-শে মার্চকে স্বাধীনতা দিবস ঘোষণা করা হয়েছিল এবং ২৬-শে মার্চ আমাদের স্বাধীনতা দিবস। প্রতি বছর এই দিনটি রাষ্ট্র কর্তৃক বিশেষ মর্যাদায় পালিত হয়। স্বাধীনতা দিবস আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে মহান গৌরব ও মর্যাদার দিন।
